To Find Out The Truth Behind The Tribal Tattoos

The tribal tattoos are among the most popular nowadays tattoos. One might ask why the tribal tattoos are so attractive to the people. Is it because of history behind it or is it just a new mode?

The first tribal tattoos date back as far as 5000 years. They were used within families or tribes for identification. Each family or tribe has its own design in which a family member could be recognized.

But even within a family or a tribe different tattoos were used for example to symbolize their social status (such as marriage), the rites of passage (for humans boy or a girl to the woman) or to the magic of healing and protection.

Overall we can say that the tribal tattoos were used as a way of giving a specific identity and a way of self expression.

The world in which we live today with its rapid communication networks and high jobs requiring people are afraid of getting lost in the crowd and are seeking ways to self express themselves in order to have their own identity. Here is where past and present meet and tattoos serve the same purpose. But as for the rest there is no resemblance. Tattooing tribal lost most of their meaning or no meaning at all. They have become a fad.

The tribal people, we are seeing today are most often characterized by bold black lines based on the design Polynesian tattooing and those tribes of Borneo. Although they have a masculine type of energy about them, they can worn by men and women.

We can say today that the tribal tattoos are mainly a fashion statement and have very little in common with those used for thousands of years. But we must admit that a design which was created thousands of years ago and still appeal to people today should be a pretty good and probably deserves more credit that has been called a mode.
